Dokis First Nation is located near the borders of Parry Sound, Sudbury, and Nipissing, about 16 kilometers southwest of Lake Nipissing on the French River. The community is accessible via a 25-kilometer gravel road from Highway 64, with the nearest urban centers of North Bay (120 km via Highway 17) and Sudbury (120 km via Highway 69).

The First Nation's lands include two large islands in the historic French River, with the main settlement located on Okikendawt Island, named for the bucket formations in the rock created by centuries of water flow. These "buckets" were used for tobacco offerings for safe passage through the territory. The second island, a southern peninsula, is primarily used for traditional activities like hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking, with many locals maintaining private camps. The total land base exceeds 39,000 acres.

Dokis First Nation has over 1,300 members, with approximately 200 residing on reserve. The population increases in the summer months, and the community is dedicated to improving the quality of life for its members both on and off-reserve. The Nation offers a variety of services, including health, employment, and administrative support, while promoting a sustainable lifestyle that respects its natural resources.
