Shawanaga First Nation is part of the broader Anishnabek Nation, which extends across much of Ontario, eastward through the Prairies, and along the northern shores of all the Great Lakes. This diverse nation includes several groups, such as the Algonquin, Saulteaux, Anishnabe (Ojibway), Odawa, Chippewa, and others.

As a member of the Anishnabek Nation, Shawanaga First Nation shares a rich cultural heritage and a deep connection to the land. The community actively works to preserve its traditions, language, and values, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Indigenous culture in the region.
